UNNATURALLY YOURS
So our health minister says that homosexuality, where a man has sex with another man, is unnatural and it is a disease which has come from the West. I've heard people calling homosexuality unnatural before too but I don't understand why. If a feeling of loving someone or something (be it a human or an animal or monument or a moment) comes from within, isn't it suppose to be 'natural'? How can love be unnatural?
We humans have come to a state where we have evolved brains which in turn have spurred millions of thoughts and feelings. In comparison, animals do not not have such evolved brains, so most of them just eat, mate, try to stay alive and be just that, animals. I am assuming that animals' thoughts and feelings have not evolved to a level where they can think or feel gay. So if evolution or God, whichever you believe in, wanted us humans to get to this advanced level of thinking, where we build civilisations, societies and whatnot and feeling, where we form relations, friendships even with strangers, so it's only natural if some of us have a liking for the same gender. And it obviously is not a disease (also claimed by one Baba Ramdev where he also gave a cure for it).
Who are we to say what is natural and what is not? By those standards shaving and cutting of one's hair should be unnatural as well (as many of the Sikh faith will tell you that it is). If we were to go according to a traditional Indian family where marriages are only arranged, it'd be very unnatural for the youngsters to find their own partners. Also unnatural should be taking care of our new born babies, because in nature many animals leave their children, to fend for themselves, the second they are born. Vegetarians would tell you their way is the natural way. But people who eat meat would argue by saying that even plants have life so it is killing any which way. Now which way to eat is natural? In many communities men are circumcised and in others they are not. But either way it's natural. Really? Two contradicting things are both natural? In South Asia it is natural for children to live with their parents, in the same house, even after they married. But it is also natural, on the other hand in USA, for kids to leave their homes when they turn 18 years old and start their own lives.
I could go on and on reciting examples of contradicting thoughts, norms and customs and still not find out which one is the correct way. I wish there was a book of rules written by Mother Nature. Life could be so much more, you know, natural.
